Chinese Street Food in Kolkata - Teritti Bazar

The best ways to start your day's food expedition is to have a slice of China in your breakfast... and for this what can be a better place than Kolkata's (Calcutta's) very own "China Town". It is a very interesting fact that Kolkata (Calcutta) is the only city in India that has a "China Town". The Chinese have settled in Kolkata as early as the 1780s, and since then they have played a significant role in defining Kolkata's (Calcutta's) cuisine.
Kolkata has mainly two China Towns where the Chinese are settled... one in the Teritti bazar area, that is known as Old China Town, and another in Tangra, known as New China Town. The famous Chinese breakfast is available in both these places - Teritti bazar and Tangra.

Teritti bazaar is in the Chhatawala Gully just beside Poddar court near Lal Bazaar police headquarters. This place is easily accessable from Howrah, Sealdah, esplanade Babughat bus stand etc.

Around 6 am when many people are still deep in their sleep... Teritti bazar full of people busy having Chinese breakfast and vendors selling chinese food items like Chicken Momos, Pork Momos, Shu Mei, Sausages, Prawn wafers, Tai Paos, Fried dough sticks, Chicken Rolls etc.

Here you’ll find an interesting mixture of Chinese Indians, Indians, shoppers, eaters, and depending on what day you go, a crowd that has just finished partying the night away and is looking for something tasty to eat.
I was happily surprised to see freshly made Chinese sausages being dried in the early Kolkata morning sunshine. I wanted to fry one up right then and there and devour it along with a hot fresh plate of rice.
